Nigerian Celebrities and Politics

Celebrities branching out into new ventures, such as politics, is no new phenomenon, as countless and notable celebrities have made their mark in politics in Nigeria and overseas.

When some of our celebrities such as 9ice, Desmond Elliot, Kate Henshaw, Tony Tetuila and Kenny Saint Best, just to mention a few that have turn to politics, some laughed and shake their heads, some even called them unprintable names.

Every election year we all complain that same set of politicians and past leaders that we know still contest the political offices, so why can’t we embrace the new bred of young politicians who are bold enough to join the fierce political race in this country?

Politics is all about professionals coming together to proffer solutions and control the affairs of a nation so why can’t the celebrities tag along? They are
eligible to vote and be voted for, and some of them are academically sound than some past and present crop of politicians.

If you won’t stand up to the task then do not discourage the courageous ones who aim to salvage the country’s affairs. We all can’t sit back and watch or complain whenever we see same old politicians vying for political offices every election year, we need a change and that change we long for requires our active participation, so give them this opportunity and your votes as well.
