radio presentation. Among the best voices from the western region of Nigeria.
From the audible voice of Dr. Ambrose Somide (Baba Elemi), Alhaji Dr. Bashiru
Adisa Baba’gboin, Banjo Ojedeji, Josiah Wankpa, Safi, Tony Sparkle, Funmi
Adenuga, Olusoji Ajes to that of world famous Kenny Keke Ogungbe amongst other
vibrant presenters. And the most pronounced producer Engineer Lobe 101.
*Some fans never walk or work alone without their radio.
With lots of humor,
seasoned presenters educates and entertains listeners with logical set of
Program Parade. The early morning belt dubbed ‘Oyela’ is such a classic with
the duo of Banjo Ojedeji and Olayinka Olayanju. Gainfully, every morning they
refresh our memories with the meaning of numerous Yoruba adage. Also, they
express and discuss topical issues which according to their presentation, shows
that such topics have been thoroughly researched prior to airing. In addition,
the daybreak News christened ‘Iroyin Idakomu’ (with direct translation meaning
news you listen to while drinking early morning pap) simply awesome.
Likewise, the evening
belt dubbed ‘Bale L’ayo’, especially on Tuesdays the comic representation of
‘Oba Orin Kafata’ also known as ‘Fuji Ata-Didin’, ‘Fuji Silencer’ is one of
listeners’ delights on Faaji FM. His creative musical skirmish with guest
musicians in the studio is mind blowing and thrilling even though the ‘Fuji Ata
Didin’ crooner is yet to release an album. Similarly, the duo of Safi and Tony
Sparkle ignites listeners Saturday afternoon with contemporary songs and pidgin
education. And
the famous Sunday enchantment; ‘Baba Elemi’ anchored by ‘Bruzuma’ himself, the
Jagaban of FIBAN.
*Children listening to the radio.
From all of this
excitement, nevertheless, there are notable flaws. A popular Yoruba proverb
says that ‘no matter how smart one walks, the head will have its own movement’.
Faaji FM needs to curb excessive use of fabricated human angle stories. Most of
the ‘stories’ seem to have emanated from the presenter’s flight of imagination.
Interaction with some fans revealed that most (not all) human-angle stories are
fabricated. Mr. Yusuf Ajibola, a front-line fan of Faaji FM in Meiran Town said
that “most stories are not real but people (listeners) still call in to give
advice based on human interest”. Also, Miss Feyisara Ajibola, the daughter of
Mr. Ajibola said that “actually one can learn from such cooked-up stories and
it can also help to make right decisions if such happened in one’s life but it
is obvious that not all the stories shared on air are real”.
Simply Ayo, a
barber, in accord with other listeners observed that “such stories are not real
but it helps kick off conversation with customers and sometimes useful sha”.
Nevertheless, there is always room for improvement though.
