Meet SENAYON the ‘function’ guy

Born Oluwaseyi Nasiru Daniel, the managing director/CEO SENAYON; a budding household name in the world of event management. The Mass Communication graduate unwrap the challenges and the gains of event hosting. Excerpts...

BYS: The name Senayon?

SENAYON:  Senayon is a name and it was given to me by my mum. It means ‘mine will be good’, ‘its well with me’ or ‘tomorrow will be good’, it all depends on how well you want to express it. I picked the name SENAYON because I know it’s the best way to get attention and encourage others to make use of their indigenous names as a stage name, because it tells the world where you are coming from and also brings people close to you. From what I have discovered in my little time is that people find it very easy to identify with you when you make use of indigenous names, because "Oyinbo man no go drop him name na abi?

BYS: How long have you been hosting events?

SENAYON:  Playfully I hosted my first event which happened to be a friend's birthday party in year 2001.I picked it up as a challenge then, although I have had the cause to be in the fore front at occasions before that day, but I can say that I officially launched myself into the event world in 2010.

BYS: What have been your challenges so far?

SENAYON:  My major challenge for now is mobility; our traffic situation in Nigeria is frustrating. At times you are left with no choice than to get to the venue hours before the programme’s kick-off time because you have to be there on time.
BYS: What inspires you?
SENAYON: God is my source of inspiration. I also receive inspiration when I am alone.
So I want to say that being alone inspires me especially when I have an event coming up.
I always get something fresh.
BYS: How do you connect with your audience?
SENAYON: I connect with my audience from my first utterance, though this job, like a boss of mine will say "its love at first sight", from your mode of dressing. When the audience set their eyes on you, the first connection takes place, and then the next one has to do with whatever you are saying. It has to be catchy.

BYS: What was your first hosting like? Seeing lots of faces!

SENAYON: My first major hosting felt like I was carrying a big jar of acid, but after two minutes on stage it felt like a child's play.

BYS: I have witness an event which you anchored, what gives you that energy?
SENAYON: I am naturally energetic, and if you must carry your audience along, you must lead by example. More so, this job requires a lot of gestures and sign languages, it’s just normal to be passionate about anything you do on stage.

BYS: So where do you see SENAYON in 5 years?

SENAYON: SENAYON in five years, I see myself as a major player in event hosting world, then I hope to focus more on boardroom events, where I get to anchor events for multi-national corporations and big business empires and lessen my attention for concerts.

BYS: Social network IDs?
SENAYON:  My twitter handle is @senayoncute and on facebook you can reach me directly on www.facebook.com/senayon.eventhost

BYS: Thanks for your time
SENAYON: You are welcome.
