Story for the gods

When I first read this news story, I thought the guy in question was from another planet entirely. It is so absurd to hear that a 'man commits suicide after fiancée dumps him' in this present generation.

His name is Oluwatosin Otaiku, 33-year-old stabbed himself to death after his fiancée, Olaogun Oluwatoyin, told him she was no longer interested in the relationship. After the girlfriend made a U-turn, the deceased was said to have become worried, and this made neighbors, who were aware of the development, to intervene. Efforts were made to reconcile them. On one of such occasions, at the Onikolobo area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, an eyewitness said the duo was invited to discuss in privacy inside a shop at Safari junction in Onikolobo.

Oluwatosin was said to have hidden a knife in his pocket, prepared to end it all if there was no truce. It was further gathered that Oluwatoyin stood her ground and maintained that she could not continue with the relationship. On hearing this unfavourable verdict, the deceased reportedly brought out the knife from his pocket which made Oluwatoyin to run out of the shop, thinking she was the target. Oluwatoyin was said to have immediately alerted neighbors who rushed into the shop and met the deceased stabbing himself. He was said to have been rushed to the Mercy Hospital in the Panseke area of Abeokuta. From there, he was referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, also in Abeokuta, but he died on the way to the hospital.

I called this story for the gods because Oluwatosin will pay eternally for his stupidity. Love, as I understand it, it should not be endured or against your will. Moreover, according to the news, they are not married and there are no children yet. So why will he take his own life? Precious life that lot of people are paying heavily to hold on to in the hospital.

Hmm, it is a sad news but I feel this guy should have been wise enough to act better. Even the famous Romeo and Juliet story revealed that their tragedy was due to lack of communication. They were not as gullible as Tosin. Everything in this life is replaceable if we truly check am sincerely! Well, this is a lesson for us all, never be 'eternally' stupid with your actions. Tosin, I pray your soul forgives your emotions and let you rest in peace!
