2013 Top Ten Songs

Nigerian musicians had a wonderful year, from the juicy and mouth watering endorsements to fabulous record deals. A lot of massive songs were produced in the year 2013. We had a difficult time picking out this top ten from the other songs. So we had to build up a standard, ranging from the lyrics, beat and message with a slice of video advantage. In view of our standard, here are the BackYardstudio top ten songs which thrilled and got us jumping in the club, concerts, and in our homes. Enjoy reading!

10. The Kick by Wande Coal ft Don Jazzy
Before the eventual exit of Wande Coal from the Mavin Records, he teamed up like always with his erstwhile boss Don Baba J on this track that gets you up from your seat. The song was produced and co-written by Jazzy, made our list of top ten songs for 2013. From the first word of the lyrics and the beat you are assured of a fun time. Wande Coal now recording with Black Diamond Entertainment.

9. Sho’Le by Sean Tizzle
He is the next rated music star according to HipHopWorld. Seun Morihanfen popularly known as Sean Tizzle a talented singer and entertainer came into limelight in the year 2013 with his hit single ‘Sho lee’. The song exclusively produced by Dtunes is no doubt a major club banger last year. The beat, right on point and the lyrics well framed with the beat. He was formerly a member of Naija-Ninja, no wonder Sultan has his credit attached to the song. He is currently signed on to Difference Entertainment.

8. Oyato by D’banj
Despite the surprise break-up with his erstwhile friend and music partner Don Jazzy, Some thought D’banj will not be able to make a hit without Don Jazzy or Mo’Hit Records; he proved them wrong with a smashing hit titled Oyato.  He had a great year, headlining concerts, shows and made us proud at the African Cup of Nations closing ceremony. D’banj, apart from making good songs, no doubt gave us some dress sense. He made some cool collaboration too.

 7. Natural Something by Sound Sultan
Sultan succeeded in making Nigerian guys feel ‘Natural Something’ for our ladies; without the slaps though. Natural Something produced by TY-Mix made us laugh and dance as well. Sultan has a way of combining comedy with music and he did justice to that in this smashing hit. The video tells it all. He deserves double thumbs up for the creativity.

6. Jaiye Jaiye by Wizkid
Wizzy Wiz...he knows how to carry his fans along; year after year he has kept the tempo rising with his songs. In collaboration with the four- time Grammy award nominee, legendary Femi Kuti, Omo Jaiye jaiye was a massive hit in the year 2013. The accompanying video is such an interesting motion picture which depicts the fun loving nature of Wizkid; giving out cash live on stage. Femi Kuti gave a top-notch performance with the saxophone.  Such collaboration should be encouraged.

5. Durosoke by Olamide
Olamide, Olamide, Baddo...he stamped his feet in the industry with Eni Duro and ever since bobo yen ko duro rara, he kept dishing out hits after hit. He made a lot of songs last year, we had to stick with Durosoke because his fame stayed up continuously. From First of All to Turn-up jibing in pure Yoruba; Olamide got us jumping and dancing.  He actually proved himself to be the Baddest-Guy-Ever-Liveth (BGEL) because he made street music and got endorsements and not forgetting the Awards and the big wheels!

4. This Year (Odun yi) by Jaywon
Talking about a song, that will continuously remain evergreen in Nigeria till the end of time. The lyrics are filled with words that anyone can identify with. The beat is also socially danceable. Jaywon, the Prince of Kennis Music record label nailed it with this song title ‘This Year’. Produced by Black Jersey and co-inspired by Mr. Nomoreloss. For me, I wake up and sleep with this song because it’s such an inspiration for those who believe in their dreams. Jaywon also made other good songs this year especially Madantin and God Sent which featured the Mavin songstress Tiwa Savage.

3. Eminado by Tiwa Savage ft Don Jazzy
The first lady of Mavin Records teamed up with the Mavin CEO Don Jazzy on this one tagged Eminado Eminado. The beat was amazing. With her exotic looks and figure8 she charmed us with a lot of songs and her performance at shows and concerts. Despite the fact that she got married, she had enough time in her hands and made heart-warming songs too numerous to mention.

2. Gobe by Davido
He is young, rich, energetic and stylish. Davido gave us a hard time choosing between Skelewu and Gobe. We had to settle for Gobe because the beat and lyrics had a sync than that of Skelewu. No doubt both songs are club bangers. When Gobe was released, it kept other songs on the bench. Topping charts and perhaps earned Davido the endorsement. Double thumbs up to Shizzy, the producer!

1. Baby Mi Da by Dr. Victor Olaiya ft Tuface Idibia
This song made the number one because it is a complete song. A complete song, from the lyrics, beats and to the delivery made a perfect nous. Also, it’s a fusion of two kings in the Nigerian entertainment industry. What more can I say when Tuface’s voice is on a track. He took the song to another level. His lyrics gave the song a modern flavour, you know how guys woo ladies they have offended knowingly or unknowingly. Dr. Victor Olaiya gave us reasons to believe that he still has a space in the Nigeria entertainment industry. Kudos to the brains behind the video, it’s such a splendid showpiece.
