The Evil Ones in Our Midst

Few days ago I stumbled on a report about a video recovered from one of the Boko Haram hideouts in Borno State (a northern state in Nigeria). The video shows how the sadistic sect slaughtered some of their victims.  The Joint Task Force, JTF, during a security briefing played the recovered video to a group of Senators.

In the video, captured traders were pinned to the ground with their hands tied behind their back, while a sect member bent over to run a sharp knife through one of the victim’s neck. A stream of blood from the victim and shouts of Allahu Akbar (God is great) by the slaughterers followed.

The victims, apparently in the video were traders, they were forced to watch the gruesome slaughter of their colleagues before it gets to their turn. They simply dug their faces into the ground in total submission. One after the other, the same hideous fate befell each. Not done, the sect members hung each of the severed heads on its torso.

Also, the senators were shown the killing of three uniformed policemen, with their green berets intact. Before the cops were slaughtered, they were made to stand in front of a banner with Arabic inscriptions while a hooded terrorist, with an AK-47 rifle, read portions of Qurans before pronouncing death sentences on them.

Hmmm, reading about the video clips gives an imaginary level of pains mete out on the helpless victims, not mentioning the actual pain from the gruesome killings.

The videos are probably a tip of the iceberg on the atrocities perpetrated by the Boko Haram. From the outset, it is obvious that this evil group’s aim of saying no to western education is absurd. The ammunitions, clothes, trucks and communication gadgets they use are from the western world. Lately, they are clamouring for ‘un-necessary’ Islamic rule, probably in some parts on Nigeria, because they are hungry for power.

Without mincing words, they are bunch of animals, unscrupulous illiterates and first class murderers.

Their victims are helpless petty traders, villagers and ordinary Nigerian citizens who are struggling to make ends meet. In their folly, they believe killing an ordinary Nigerian will make them achieve their meaningless aims not knowing that it will only be read on the pages of newspapers and it ends there, perhaps invites more troops to the region.

The common man on Nigerian streets have suffered enough from the economic, political and academic hardship, now the Boko Haram are here to place the proverbial last straw that broke the camel’s back.

The Senators have seen the video, what are they doing to curb such occurrence in the future or what strategies are they considering to end the violent activities of the dreaded group. It is high time they came up with fruitful actions and laws against the evil ones in our midst. If creating a new entity from the landmass called Nigeria will end the scourge, so be it. It will not be the first neither will it be the last. It should be encouraged before the common man, helpless traders and unguided villagers continue to be sacrificed. And the politicians also continue to hold futile meetings over a cup of coffee.

I hope all the Senators are not as clueless as the overall shepherd on this particular issue and other countless ones endured day by day by the citizens.

I pray they (The Senators) do not turn a blind eye on this video clips because ‘knowing what to do (to ease Nigerians from these hardship and killings) and not doing it is evil.

Communication is not complete without feedback.
